Reportage. At the quarry

Thanks Sarah! In this piece I'm struck by the black and white drawing collage 'intrusion' of machinery into a world rich with colour and texture. And all the experiments you've done with line and texture. What is the sand made of?

The inclusion of the worker gives a good indication of the scale of the quarry and the ecology problem. It wouldn't work nearly as well without him.

The mixed media hold together well - which is often a problem in a combination of materials and photography like this. The desaturated colours give the image unity. In that vein, perhaps the sky could be a bit more desaturated as well?
But overall, this is a landscape that's difficult to depict, and you've done quite well with it.
