Definitely not a cheerful day in the kitchen. I find your 'don't panic' image more approachable. But maybe this is meant to connote despair at things turning into a greasy mess. A very strong illustration, but keep in mind an illustration in a magazine is meant to entice the viewer into reading the article. I'd be more attracted to reading the 'don't panic' article, or an article that came with one of the illustrations you showed in Assignment 2A. On the other hand if an article were about descent into a dark, uncontrollable psychological state, this would be appropriate. And after all, that's what madness truly means.
