The Maori had many weapons. The taiahas I drew at the local museum. Although spear-like they were never thrown. Normally they would have feathers lashed above the carving to distract the opponent. It depicts a face poking out its tongue. The plain headed taiaha at the bottom is for boys to practice with. The 'mere' or 'patu' were also often made of pounamu (greenstone) or other dense stone. Our province is rich in Maori history, including battles between tribes and latter with the Pakeha.
